Ontario Vacancy Rate Increases to 3.5%
Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) has released its October 2009 Rental Market Survey data. “Today’s data illustrates the impact of the economic downturn on rental demand”, said Vince Brescia, President of FRPO. “There is an abundance of choice for renters in the marketplace, as vacancy and availability have substantially increased” said Brescia.

FRPO Supports Release of Human Rights Policies for Rental Housing
The Federation of Rental-housing Providers of Ontario (FRPO) today welcomed the release of the Ontario Human Rights Commission';s Policies on Human Rights and Rental Housing. "The policies released by the Commission today are a valuable resource for helping housing providers understand their responsibilities while helping to prevent human rights violations in the first place," said Vince Brescia, President and CEO of FRPO.

FRPO Welcomes New Rental Housing Tax Rebate
The Federation of Rental-housing Providers of Ontario (FRPO) today welcomed the announcement by the Ontario government of a proposed enhancement to the new housing rebate that was announced in the 2009 Ontario Budget.

Ontario's Rental Housing Vacancy Increases to 3.3%
Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) today released its April 2009 Rental Market Survey data. “Today’s data demonstrates how economic uncertainty and increasing supply of rental housing is creating choice and availability for renters”, said Mike Chopowick, Manager of Policy at FRPO.

HST to Increase Rents 3%
The province of Ontario has recently announced that the PST and GST will be harmonized in Ontario as of July 1, 2010. FRPO estimates that this new action will increase rents in Ontario by 2.5 to 3.0 percent. "We estimate that this will increase rents for the average Ontario tenant by $270 to $320 per year," said Vince Brescia, President & CEO of FRPO.
