The government is about to pass legislation, the Rental Fairness Act (Bill 124), that will make significant changes to the Residential Tenancies Act. These changes include ending the post 1991 rent control exemption, banning above guideline increases (AGIs) for all utilities, prohibiting AGIs in buildings with overdue elevator work orders, developing regulations that will further tighten the rules for capital expenditure AGIS, require the use of a standard lease, changing the landlord’s own use eviction rules, and other changes to Landlord and Tenant Board processes.
FRPO will provide members with two information sessions held via webinar that will provide a comprehensive overview of the changes and how these changes will impact you. These sessions are free for members and in order to ensure space for as many members as possible, we encourage you to register one person and watch as a group. If you have any questions about this, please contact Lynzi Michal at firstname.lastname@example.org. Speakers include Jim Murphy of FRPO, Joe Hoffer of Cohen Highley LLP and John Matheson of Strategy Corp
